FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: method of express assessment of the motor fuel quality consists in the following: the refraction index and fuel dispersion are measured, a value of dispersion is used to determine a portion of aromatic hydrocarbons in fuel. The refraction index and dispersion are measured with respect to toluene. The portion of aromatic hydrocarbons, as the function of mean dispersion, is determined by the scale of the Amici dispersion compensator. The portion of aromatic hydrocarbons and the refraction index are used to make a conclusion about a grade of the fuel mixture and, in particular, about the detonation resistance of commercial petrol by means of the identification map. As the measuring prism substance in the device used is toluene, between analysed fuel and toluene installed is a wedge with the great refraction index, whose thick edge is located from the side of light incidence. The device also contains the dispersion compensator in the form of the Amici prism and an objective, in whose focal plane a device for determining a value of displacement of a light and shadow boundary image is installed. The frame with the Amici prism is connected to a movable ring with a scale in fractions of aromatic hydrocarbons.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to carry out control of fuel quality without the cell thermostatting, and to measure dispersion.
