FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to determination of Cs-137 in natural and waste water for the purpose of radioecological monitoring. Cesium-137 is concentrated under dynamic conditions on a sorbent, dried and measured on a gamma-spectrometer. To concentrate Cs-137, a water sample of 10-100 l is taken, filtered through a highly specific to Cs-137 sorbent nickel-potassium ferrocyanide based on hydrated titanium-zirconium dioxide or sorbent T-35 or nickel-potassium ferrocyanide based on cellulose at rate of 2-5 l/h. Concentration is carried out with high and reproducible output of 98-99%; the concentrate is measured on a scintillation or semiconductor gamma-ray spectrometer in the geometry of a plastic can with diameter of 30 mm.
EFFECT: reduced consumption of sorbent, reduced volume of samples for analysis to 10-100 l with high and reproducible output of Cs-137 into concentrate, as well as the absence of the need to determine the yield of caesium in the concentrate for each sample, high efficiency of detecting the sorbent concentrate and low detection limit of Cs-137 in natural and waste water of 0.001 Bq/l.
