FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of research or analysis of chemical or physical properties of materials, in particular, petroleum motor fuels, based on promptly determined content of methyl esters of fatty acids (MEFA) as main components of biodiesel fuels. Method for assessing the quality of petroleum motor fuels by the operatively determined content of methyl esters of fatty acids involves applying an aliquot of the analysed sample of petroleum motor fuel on the surface of a plate for classical thin-layer chromatography with a silica gel sorbent, separation of sample components by elution with an ascending flow of a mixture of n-heptane and acetone, taken in ratio of 95:5 parts by volume, chromatogram visualization by treatment with iodine vapour or with mixture of 5% aqueous solutions of iron chloride and potassium hexacyanoferrate (III), taken in ratio of 1:1 parts by volume, identification of fuel as containing MEFA by the presence of a brown or blue spot on the chromatogram, the value of Rf of which is 0.41±0.03, determination of MEFA concentration in concentration of not less than 0.05 and 0.1% vol., respectively, according to previously constructed calibration curve or by values of spot area on comparison chromatograms, or by analytical dependences of spot area values on MEFA concentration and evaluation of fuel quality by content of said compounds.
EFFECT: wider range of methods for assessing the quality of petroleum motor fuels with simultaneous expansion of the concentration range of determining methyl esters of fatty acids.
