FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical engineering. Disclosed is a catalyst for removing carbonyl sulphide from natural gas, which contains 90–97 wt.% support, 2–6 wt.% alkali metal oxide and 1–4 wt.% nickel oxide. Part of support is a phase of AlO(OH), χ-Al2O3 and η-Al2O3, weight ratio of which in support is 1:(2–5):(0.2–0.6), respectively. Disclosed is use of said catalyst for removal of carbonyl sulphide. Method of removing carbonyl sulphide from natural gas includes bringing crude natural gas into contact with said catalyst at temperature of 100–140 °C and hourly space velocity of crude natural gas in range of 1,000–5,000 h-1 and further separation of produced natural gas and hydrogen sulphide.

EFFECT: group of inventions provides a high degree of conversion of carbonyl sulphide due to the use of a catalyst having high catalytic activity, stability of activity and a long service life.
