FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to metallurgy, namely to methods of edge hardening of a cutting tool from corrosion-resistant steels of martensite class. Method of hardening the cutting edge of a cutting tool from corrosion-resistant martensitic steels, which includes thermal and ultrasonic treatment, is characterized by that, first, the workpiece is hardened from the austenitic state, then tempering is carried out at 320-340 °C and forming a cutting edge on one side, followed by ultrasonic processing along it with a clamping force of the magnetostrictive transducer with a carbide tip of 175-200 N and a pulse frequency of 22 kHz.
EFFECT: improvement of cutting parameters of the tool, elimination of possible rejects due to provision of satisfactory plasticity of the cutting tool body and high strength of the working zone of the cutting edge.
