FIELD: catalysts for olefin polymerization processes. SUBSTANCE: catalyst containing titanium tetrachloride and electronodonor compound on carrier containing complex compound with general formula MgCl2•Q where Q is polymer hydrocarbon compound with H/C molar ratio 2.18-2.30 and molecular weight 140-340 incorporated into magnesium chloride structure in quantity 4.2-13.4% based on carrier weight is distinguished by catalyst carrier's being MgCl2•Q/O2 interaction product and contents of titanium tetrachloride and electronodonor compound being, respectively, 6.46-11.68 and 2.54- 15.73. In a method of preparing catalyst including grinding carrier containing complex compound MgCl2•Q as defined above, treating it by electronodonor compound and then by titanium tetrachloride followed by washing catalyst mass with hydrocarbon solvent and drying, novelty consists in that, MgCl2•Q, prior to be treated by titanium tetrachloride, is subjected to interaction with an oxygen-containing gas at temperature varying over the range from 0 to 150 C for 0.5 to 100 h. The latter reaction may be conducted either in fixed or fluidized layer, or when grinding complex compound. According to invention, oxygen-containing gas may be either air or oxygen, or oxygen-inert gas mixture with oxygen content 2-50 vol.% and moisture content 0.0005- 0.002 wt %. EFFECT: increased catalyst activity.
