FIELD: metallurgy and welding engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention is concerned with welding practice and may be employed when restoring rollers and other metallurgical equipment parts with use of fusing technique. In order to level off the deterioration along the roller length, wear resistance of part is artificially altered in the process of fusing along the part length depending on expected applied loadings. Such alteration is achieved by way of changing slope of crystallites when molten pool is being hardened. Optimal slope corresponding to minimum deterioration is determined either experimentally or calculated and is provided to be at the most loaded site of roller, i.e. in the center of roller. In direction to the ends of roller the slope is increased artificially reducing wear resistance. Slope control is performed by varying rate of energy input resulting from varying fusing rate. Rate of energy input is varied proportionally to stress values. When operated, because of difference in wear resistance along roller length, stress distribution keeps pattern close to initial one and roller profile remains unalternated. EFFECT: increased service life of parts due to greater uniformity in surface deterioration. 2 cl, 5 dwg, 2 tbl
