FIELD: processing and recovery of materials. SUBSTANCE: concept of new method resided in that material was squeezed in plane of propagation of crack across external surface of workpiece by first locating crack, making two flutes in external surface of workpiece so that distance between them be not less than size of crack, accommodating tape fitting shape of spherical surface in these flutes and arranging two half-rings at each flute. Tightening rings fitted around external surface of workpiece gave rise to compressive stress in crack plane and adjacent areas. EFFECT: effective retardation of propagation of cracks. 3 dwg
