FIELD: petroleum chemistry. SUBSTANCE: process is performed by oxidation of sulfides with hydrogen peroxide at 50-80 C in the presence of catalyst taken at concentration 0.001-0.004 wt.-% (as for parental sulfides). Di-(β-hydroxyethyl)-molybdate or molybdic acid solution in trimethylethylene glycol or ammonium para-molybdate in the mixture of tri- and tetrapropylene glycols or their monomethyl esters were used as catalysts. Method ensures to decrease catalyst consumption by 16-25 times due to improved regeneration of catalyst from the aqueous phase. EFFECT: simplified process, decreased catalyst consumption. 1 tbl
