SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for preparing petroleum sulfoxides that are used in technology for concentrating rare and precious metals, for solving ecological problems, treatment of agriculture animals and so on. Sulfoxides are prepared by oxidation of sulfides in diesel fraction of sulfurous oil with hydrogen peroxide an aqueous solution in the presence of molybdenum-containing catalyst. Dialkylsulfinates of molybdenum peroxo-complex obtained by treatment of molybdenum oxide or molybdenic acid with alkylmercaptans. The following oxidation of prepared compounds is carried out with hydrogen peroxide at temperature 40-50 C. Invention provides enhancing rate of oxidation reaction and to reduce its duration.
