FIELD: measurement technology, nondestructive materials testing. SUBSTANCE: taking into account parameters of the welded joint under inspection, the characteristics are chosen of sectionalized transducer, specifically the angle between the acoustic axes of the radiator and receiver, subject to the equality between the ratio between the directional patterns at the far and near limits of uniform sensitivity range and the ratio between the distances from the ultrasonic beam source or receiver to these limits. The transducer radiates ultrasonic wave pulses entering the welded joint, echo pulses are received, transverse-longitudinal scanning of the article is performed. In the course of scanning measurements are taken of the echo pulses received so as to determine the quality of the article. EFFECT: increased inspection productivity due to elimination of a number of transducers otherwise used for sounding the whole cross section of welded joint with the same sensitivity, simplified design. 3 dwg
