Abstract SU 1642846 A1

FIELD: measurement technology, nondestructive materials testing. SUBSTANCE: operating characteristics of a sectionalized transducer and parameters of scanning, specifically of an angle between the acoustic axes of the transducer and receiver, a distance from an entering point to the axis of a welded joint, and a depth of focus of the transducer, all are chosen on condition that all the cross section of the welded joint is sounded in the band of uniform sensitivity of an ultrasonic beam. The transducer is placed on the welded joint surface and is forced to travel along its axis. In the course of scanning vibratory pulses are radiated, echo pulses are received, measurements are taken of their parameters which are used to determine the presence of defects in the welded joint under inspection. The central beams of the transducer and receiver intersect inside of the welded joint behind its axis, marginal rays are incident upon the root and apex of the welded joint. EFFECT: increased production rate and enhanced reliability of inspection due to elimination of crosswise levelling of sensitivity during sounding cross section of welded joint. 3 dwg
