FIELD: organometallic compounds. SUBSTANCE: the process is carried out by reacting TiCl4 with Mg at the molar ratio of 1:16 to 104. Magnesium is first treated with TiCl4 and HCl saturated alcohol is then added. In order to recover the desired product, the solvent is removed form the mixture. In the polymerization of ethylene, a novel catalyst affords the maximum yield of 13.1 kg of polyethylene per 1 g tiper hr of Ti·h.
