FIELD: electroslag welding of metals. SUBSTANCE: method involves the use of plate electrode 1 and melting plate 2 with a central channel, installed in advance into the gap between parts 3 to be welded. Said plate is electrically neutral and arranged square to the edges being welded. Distinguishing feature of the welding process consists in dropless transition of the melted plate into the metal bath. The filler metal is delivered through the central channel of said plate. A submitted empirical formula serves for determining the thickness of melted insert depending on the parameters of electroslag welding: b b = KIн10-3 where b plate thickness, mm; In nominal welding current; A, K coefficient equal to 5-8 at λ < 0,5 and 3-5 at λ > 0,5 where λ coefficient of thermal conductivity of plate.
