FIELD: petroleum processing industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves heating tested fluids and their mix in presence of plates from metal alloy, which is present in cooling system of engine. After heating samples are cooled and refraction index is determined. Compatibility of fluids is judged by the following equation nсм≅ a•n1+б•n2,, where ncm is refraction index of mix, n1 are values of refraction index for tested fluids, n2 are ratio by volume of samples of fluids.
