FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemistry. Spent antifreeze solutions, containing ethylene glycol, and sulphuric acid electrolyte are mixed in weight ratio of ethylene glycol to sulphuric acid ranging from 1.0:0.1 to 1.0:1.5, in terms of anhydrous components. The obtained mixture is heat treated at 100-180°C at atmospheric pressure with free air access to a reaction zone while stirring the product until amorphous sulphonated carbon is obtained. Said amorphous sulphonated carbon is optionally heat treated at 250-350°C until an ash residue forms.
EFFECT: invention enables to conduct combined decontamination of spent antifreezes and sulphuric acid electrolyte to obtain products which are suitable for recycling.
