FIELD: polymer production.
SUBSTANCE: phosphorus-containing copolymers are prepared via copolymerization of styrene of methyl methacrylate with phosphorus-containing monomers in bulk or organic solvent medium at 50-80°C in presence of free radical initiators, polymerization method being characterized by that, in order to obtain uninflammable copolymers with improved properties, phosphorus-containing monomers of formula CH3-P(=O)R-OCH2CH2O-CO-C(CH3)=CH2, where R represents hydroxyl, phenyl, phenoxy or alkoxy, are utilized. Use of methacryloyl-ethylene glycol esters of a variety of methylphosphonic acids as monomers allows uninflammable copolymers to be prepared having linear rather than cross-linked structures typical of known copolymers.
EFFECT: increased solubility of polymers thus prepared in organic solvents.
