FIELD: engine engineering. SUBSTANCE: method of operation of internal combustion engine, which is provided with a piston having an apparatus for automatic control of compression ratio and separated supplying of fuel and air into cylinder, is implemented by decreasing volume of a compression chamber to zero at the end of discharging exhaust gases with simultaneous closing outlet member when a piston is in the top dead center. The fuel is preliminary overheated before supplying to cylinder and fed to cylinder after the piston is passed the top dead center and before opening the inlet member. Internal combustion engine has piston, which is provided with an apparatus for automatic control of compression ratio made of a case coupled with a connecting rod, and sleeve freely mounted on the case. Top section of the sleeve is profiled corresponding to inner surface of the cylinder head. The sleeve is received in the case without spaces from the head when piston is in the top dead center at the end of discharging exhaust gases. Gas distributing unit is mounted in the head for rotation and made of two coaxially mounted pipes which define a ring space. The pipes have ports. Cross-pieces between the pipes define a passage which connects one port of the outer pipe with a port of the inner pipe. The passage defines an outlet member. The inlet member is defined by the other port of the outer pipe which is positioned on the head for overlapping inlet-outlet opening of the head. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency and decreased toxicity because of increasing completeness of fuel combustion. 13 dwg
