FIELD: drying technology. SUBSTANCE: wood is dried by removing moisture from its capillaries and liquid from a steam space. Electrodes with an external electric field are brought in contact with the dried surface. A temperature gradient is produced at the points of electrode-wood surface contact by varying the electric current polarity while its value in the circuit decreases up to zero. The area of contact is cooled by liquid seeping to the temperature of the environment. The peripheral zone of contact may be filled with liquid. EFFECT: improved efficiency. 2 cl, 1 dwg
