FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: starting from beginning of intake to end of compression, the additional piston moves from extreme lower to extreme upper position being acted upon by crank gear through thrust rod, thus additionally compressing the springs in set. During compression stroke main piston moves from bottom dead center to top dead center. When main piston approaches top dead center, compression ratio of fuel-air mixture is combustion chamber is 6-7. When main piston passes top dead center, sector secured on crankshaft releases thrust rod from crank gear lock, and additional piston, being acted upon by set of springs, moves to extreme lower position, thus increasing compression ratio in combustion chamber from 6-7 to 19-20. As a result ignition and combustion of fuel-air mixture in combustion chamber place at pressure raised to P=70-80 kg/cm2. In process of working stroke at expansion of combustion products main piston moves to bottom dead center accomplishing useful work. Additional piston moves to extreme lower position where it is fixed when rod thrust against flexible support. When main piston passes bottom dead center at end of working stroke thrust rod is locked on crank of reset mechanism. During exhaust stroke, when main piston moves to top dead center, scavenging of working cylinder from combustion products is performed. Additional piston is held in extreme lower position.
