FIELD: automotive industry and mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes intake of fuel-air mixture into cylinder with piston, two-stage compression of mixture its ignition and combustion. Peculiarity of method is that two- stage compression of fuel-air mixture is carried out under nonisentropic conditions with increase in entropy. For this purpose cylinder is used which is divided by cross partition made for bypassing fuel-air mixture. At the first stage of compression, with piston moving to partition, fuel-air mixture is heated by compression to temperature of T1= (1,5-2)T0 where T0 is initial temperature of fuel-air mixture, then heated fuel-air mixture is bypassed into cylinder space behind the partition, and second-stage compression of fuel-air mixture is carried out with piston moving to top dead center until temperature rises to value of TC= (4,2-7,8)T0 with subsequent ignition and combustion of fuel-air mixture. Operation of four-stroke and six-stroke engine is also considered. This method provides ignition and stable turbulent combustion of lean fuel-air mixture.
