FIELD: automotive industry and mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: according to method cylinder with piston is filled with fuel-air mixture. Cylinder is divided into main and additional chambers by transverse partition made for bypassing fuel-air mixture. Fuel-air mixture is heated to T ≥ 800K by compressing in successive stages at nonisentropic condition with increase of entropy provided by movement of piston to partition, bypassing of heated fuel-air mixture into additional chamber and movement of piston to top dead center, with subsequent ignition and combustion of fuel-air mixture. At four-stroke operation of engine, main chamber of cylinder is filled with lean fuel-air mixture at α>4 or with air, and additional chamber is filled with rich fuel-air mixture at α<0,2. At the end of first compression stage, with piston moving to partition, part of heated lead fuel-air mixture or air is bypassed into additional chamber to α = 0,2-0,6, and second compression stage is effected by moving piston to top dead center with simultaneously mixing of fuel-air mixture, ignition and partial oxidation. Then products of partial oxidation are bypassed into main chamber for mixing with initial lean fuel-air mixture or with air to α = 1-4 and are combusted when piston moves to bottom dead center. Invention contains description of operation of six-stroke engine. EFFECT: increased efficiency of engine and its operation, provision of ecologically clean start and exhaust. 4 cl, 1 dwg
