FIELD: thermal treatment of articles. SUBSTANCE: unit has heating furnace, quench bath, overflow devices, quenching medium collection reservoir, pump and transition device positioned between heating furnace and quench bath and divided by membrane into two chambers. In upper part of first chamber is mounted furnace gas discharge branch pipe. Branch-pipe for draining quenching medium overflowing from quench bath is mounted in second chamber. Membrane may be replaced. Opening size is equal to 1.2-1.5 of article size. Transition device length is chosen such that it provides passage of article from heating furnace to quench bath for time period not exceeding 3 sec. All openings for passage of article are disposed on one level. Cooling medium reservoir has cooling device formed by at least two collectors. Each of the collectors is divided into a row of parallel U-shaped pipes. Pipes of one collector are received in space between pipes of other collector. Cooling liquid flows through collectors in countercurrent with respect to quenching medium flow. EFFECT: increased efficiency. 3 cl, 2 dwg
