FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: furnace is additionally provided with a water-cooled crucible top having a volume equal to 0.2-0.5 volume of the crucible. A hearth anode is made in the form of a cylindrical graphite bath; the graphite crucible consists of at least two sections along the full vertical extent having thermal insulation between the sections. Each graphite crucible section has lower part cross-section diameter equal 0.6-0.9 that of the lower mounted section. The upper part of the graphite crucible is provided with a cooler having, instead of water-cooled case, its lining protruding out for 0.1-0.4 height of the crucible measured from its base which is additionally warmed-up from outside. EFFECT: increased efficiency of operation. 4 cl, 4 dwg
