FIELD: mass-spectrometry. SUBSTANCE: solution to be analyzed is pre-cooled to liquid nitrogen temperature. Frozen sample is introduced into ion source of mass-spectrometer. Then sample is ionized in electric discharge and ions being formed are analyzed. Analyzed solution is frozen in separate chamber, then it is placed into ion source and temperature of the solution is increased till discharge is induced in chamber in solution vapor. If aqueous solutions and mineral acids are analyzed, the temperature of frozen sample which is placed into ionization chamber, should be increased to 230-260 K till smouldering discharge is induced.
