FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: product: 4-toluidine-3-sulfonate sodium. Reagent 1: 4-toluidine. Reagent 2: concentrated sulfuric acid. Reagent 3: sodium hydroxide. Reaction conditions: sulfonation is carried out at 175-180 C in the medium of benzene polychlorides firstly. Then sulfomass is treated with sewage mixture taken from preceding process up to the volume ratio to polychlorobenzene 1-1.5. Mixture is neutralized up to pH 8.5-9, reaction mass is separated for polychlorobenzene and aqueous layers at 80-100 C. The end product is isolated from aqueous layer.
