FIELD: manufacture of friction members for drum brakes employed in automobiles produced by Volzhsky Automobile Factory. SUBSTANCE: polymer composition for drum brake friction members includes 100 part by weight branched butadiene rubber containing at least 70 % 1,2-links and/or synthetic branched lithium bimodal butadiene rubber containing at least 70 % 1,2-links, 4 to 20 parts by weight sulfur, 1.5 to 3.0 parts by weight 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, 0.5 to 0.8 parts by weight tetramethylthiyramdisulfide, 10 to 14 parts by weight graphite, 20 to 60 parts by weight alumina, 150 to 200 parts by weight barium oxide concentrate or iron minium, 165 to 220 parts by weight asbestos, 45 to 80 parts by weight potassium hydroxide, and 5 to 30 parts by weight water. Brake blocks fabricated from new composition allow more effective braking, as compared with that already known in the art, up to temperature of 250 C and greater resistance to wear.
