FIELD: extinguishing of fires on oil and gas fields including offshore fields. SUBSTANCE: method involves creating blast wave which can bring down flames from oil spout and forming a space with a very low temperature around a well of a group of wells. Spherical shells containing an explosive or a cooler, e. g. liquid nitrogen, are brought to the well mouth by means of a mechanism in the form of a rod with a fork having arcuate toothed members with projections entering the slots in said shells. Having positioned shells uniformly around the well, the fork is separated from rod by explosive charge positioned at the point of their jointing. Then the explosive contained in the shell is exploded and the blast wave brings down flames from the spout. EFFECT: higher efficiency and safety and simpler extinguishing of fires in single wells of a group of near-located wells. 3 cl, 2 dwg
