METHOD OF VANADIUM ARENES SYNTHESIS Russian patent published in 1994 - IPC

FIELD: organometallic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method involves improved method of synthesis of vanadium arenes of the general formula I (V(arene)₂), where arene means benzene or mono-, di- or poly- alkyl-substituted benzene. Reagent 1: corresponding arene, for example, benzene, toluene, mesitylene. Reagent 2: vanadium trichloride. Reagent 3: metallic aluminium. Reagent 4: aluminium trichloride. Reaction conditions: molar ratio 1: 2: 3: 4 = (4-12): (0.5-3): (0.7-6): 1, temperature is 120-130 C following by decomposition of complex prepared with simple ether to reduce the cation of (V(arene)) to the neutral bis-arene vanadium I. Tetrahydrofuran or its mixture with dimethoxyethane, or a mixture with saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon (n-heptane) are used as a simple ether. The end product is isolated by evaporation of solvent from reaction mass, residue is treated with solvent, and the end product is isolated from solution obtained by evaporation of solution, by crystallization by means of temperature decrease and/or by diluent addition. Method is used for synthesis of catalyst used in olefins polymerization. EFFECT: improved method of synthesis.
