FIELD: automatics, instrumentation engineering television. SUBSTANCE: optical signal of object is projected on photoreceiving matrix. It is sampled and converted into electric signal Е(m; n), where mI-M and nI-N is number of elements of resolution by orthogonal axes of matrix. Then coordinates of center of gravity of image with respect to selected system of coordinates are determined. In this case two groups of sampled electric signals and two groups of integral signals are formed from obtained electric signals. Device for realization of this method has TV camera 1, analog-to-digital converter 2, storing adder 3, control unit 4 composed of inverter 5, first, second, third matching units 6, 7, 8, two circuits 9, 10 for isolation of trailing edge, two counters 11, 12 and ten outputs 13-22, eight storing adders 23, 23, 23, 23, 24, 24, 24, 24, six combination adders 25, 25, 25, 26, 26, 26, computer 27.
