FIELD: metal waste processing. SUBSTANCE: dispersed metal waste, mainly grinding waste, is processed by dehydration, removal of oils, heat treatment, crushing and magnetic separation. Slime is heat-treated by annealing it in capsule under a layer of inert filler heated under flame. After magnetic separation, part of produced metal powder is divided into portions, each portion is treated with a different amount of carbon and subjected to reduction annealing by layerwise loading of mixture portions and heating them until liberation of carbon oxide is discontinued. The limiting amount of carbon is determined by the loss of weight in each annealed layer at which said loss of weight becomes a constant value. Then the limiting amount of carbon is introduced into remaining part of metal waste and reduction annealing is carried out in capsules under a layer of inert material and wood shavings. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 4 tbl
