FIELD: tribologic testing of materials. SUBSTANCE: method involves the steps of: driving a rotating drum provided with flexible members on its periphery into contact with a reciprocating flat specimen moving under gravity, a predetermined value of a loading parameter being maintained constant during test; estimating a work required for wear-out from a change in a torque of the drum prior to and after test; measuring wear-out of the specimen and determining specific power consumption for surface damage (with respect to a wear-out volume unit). Several rests at different values of parameters corresponding to a range of real varying parameters of abrasive-containing jets are carried out so as to determine specific power consumption for surface damage as a function of a loading parameters which is wholly representative of durability of material. EFFECT: reduced labour content in estimating durability under test conditions approximate to real service conditions of materials in abrasive-containing jets. 2 cl, 2 dwg
