FIELD: textile industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves measuring continuously the cross section of moving yarn, comparing obtained values with permissible preset variations of cross section, and removing any defects when results of comparison go beyond the permissible limits. Then the method involves setting the grading limits of cross section variations which are smaller than permissible for cleaning, comparing them with measurement results and, if measured values of grading variation limits are exceeded, recording them for subsequent classification of yarn quality grade. In addition, each case when the measured cross sections of yarn exceed the classification limits is recorded separately, then the records are added up and the results of addition are used as a criterion for quality grading of yarn.
