FIELD: a process for preparing tetrafluoroethylene. SUBSTANCE: tetrafluoroethylene is prepared by pyrolysis of difluorochloromethane at 800-900 C in the presence of overheated steam followed by hardening of the pyrolysis gases from 800-900 C to 300-400 C and indirect cooling with steam delivered to pyrolysis from 300-400 C to 100 C. The cooling is effected by addition of water or delute hydrochloric acid which is production waste of the given process at a 0.3-0.7:1 molar ratio calculated for the pyrolysis gases. EFFECT: lower energy consumption and increased service life of the equipment. 2 tbl
