FIELD: preparation of fluorine containing polymers. SUBSTANCE: tetrafluoroethylene is prepared by pyrolysis of difluorochloromethane in the presence of steam first under adiabatic conditions at 730-780 C till 10-40% conversion of the starting material are attained and then under isothermic conditions at 750-850 C till 65-90% conversion are attained at a steam-to-difluoroethane molar ratio determined by the formula: n=K10(4000/T-5.1)-1 in which K is the conversion of difluorochloroethane at the reactor outlet,%: T is the temperature of the isothermal portion, deg.K.
