FIELD: arc welding. SUBSTANCE: when welding by alternating the periods of contact and arc melt-out of electrode, use is made of power sources with steeply drooping or combination (steeply drooping and gradually drooping) volt-ampere characteristic curve, or additional source with gradually drooping characteristic. When arc fusion is carried out only at steeply drooping characteristic duty, contact melt-out of electrode goes on according to one of following versions: only at steeply drooping characteristic duty, or first at steeply drooping and than at gradually drooping characteristic duty. At contact fusion, no-load voltage of supply source is reduced to value equal to 0.25-0.5 of source no-load voltage at arc fusion. Short circuit current is reduced to 0.25-0.9 of short circuit current value at arc fusion. If additional supply source or supply source with combination volt-ampere characteristic is used, value of contact fusion voltage should be set 1.1-1.5-fold higher than voltage corresponding to point of intersection of steeply drooping and gradually drooping sections of curve. EFFECT: enlarged operating capabilities. 4 dwg
