FIELD: automatic self-tensioning devices of escalator drives. SUBSTANCE: drive has one or several pairs of drive rollers forming a grip through which handrail is passed. Drive rollers are mounted on axles installed eccentrically in bearings made for turning. Drive rollers are automatically tensioned relative to handrail when friction between rollers and handrail increases due to increase in resistance to handrail motion. Bearings installed for turning are connected to each other which provides equal tension of rollers at both sides of handrail. This prevents S-shaped bending of handrail when it passes through drive roller grip. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of operation. 4 cl, 3 dwg
