FIELD: manufacture of escalators. SUBSTANCE: bumper is placed into a hole in casing of repeated entrance of escalator hand grips. Bumper is deformed when it is subjected to the effect of forces directed parallel with movement of hand grips. Deformation of bumper operates a switch which turns off the escalator. If an object enters the repeated entrance casing, this produces forces normal to direction of hand grip motion. These forces actuate a pressure sensor which switches off the escalator.
