FIELD: mechanical engineering; drives of machines and mechanisms; escalators. SUBSTANCE: handrail drive has one or more pairs of chain drive sprockets and idler sprockets. Drive chain and idler sprockets are installed on rotating drive shafts which, in their turn, are eccentrically installed in bearings. In case of increase in resistance to handrail travel, drive rollers automatically clamp the handrail. Rotating bushings installed both on drive and corresponding idler sprockets are interconnected to equalize tension of chain between drive and idler sprockets to prevent sagging of chain. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of operation. 2 cl, 2 dwg
