FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: workpiece of transition metal carbide of nonstoichiometry composition is produced and deformed up to dimensions and shape of final item at a temperature being 1.05 - 1.7 one of ductile-brittle transition temperature for workpiece material with 0.1 - 250 mm/min deformation rate. Then the workpiece is saturated by carbide up to stoichiometry composition in the atmosphere of carbide bearing gases or in the filling of carbide powder. Carbide saturation is carried out at a temperature being 0.75 - 0.95 of melting point one for piecework metal for time exceeding 10 min. For instance, it may be performed through several stages with 50 - 200 C temperature increase at any stage but at a temperature of lower than 0.95 melting point temperature at the final stage.
