FIELD: mass transfer processes. SUBSTANCE: nonwetting liquid flow is passed between two diaphragms and gas or wetting liquid flow is admitted through these diaphragms, porous polymeric material of pore size 0.03 to 1.00 micron is placed between the latter; material has set of through channels of arbitrary shape and is nonwetted by same phase as that not wetting diaphragms; maximum pressure of nonwetting liquid in mass-transfer space is maintained at such value that difference between this pressure and that of other phase does not exceed capillary pressure built up in material pores in diaphragm-to-diaphragm space. Device affording mass transfer between liquid and gas or between two nonwetting liquid has mass-transfer chamber in the form of two porous diaphragms made of polymeric material and nonwetted by one of transferred phases, and layer of porous polymeric material with set of through channels of arbitrary shape placed inbetween and non wetted by same phase as that not wetting diaphragms. Diaphragms forming mass-transfer chamber and layer filling diaphragm-to-diaphragm space may be built integral and of same porous water-repelling material.
