SUBSTANCE: tanned leather is impregnated with an aqueous dispersion of amphiphilic copolymer having a mean molecular weight of 2000-100,000 and containing from 50 to 90 wt % of at least one hydrophobic monomer selected from the group consisting of (C8-C22) alkyl (meth) acrylates, (C8-C22) alkyoxy or (C12-C22) alkylphenoxy (polyethylene oxide) (meth) acrylates, (C12-C22) primary alkenes, (C12-C22) vinyl esters of alkylcarboxylic acids and mixtures thereof, and from 10 to 50 wt % of at least one water soluble hydrophilic acidic of basic copolymer having unsaturated ethylenic bonds.
