Catalytic compounds contain catalyst along with an acid having a reactivity coefficient under 2. The catalyst comprises a salt of monocarboxylic acid and palladium combined with a phosphor-containing bidentate ligand. The copolymerization is started in the presence of a linear alternating ethylene copolymer and carbon monoxide suspended in a diluent with a preferable concentration ranging from 13.0 to 27.4 percent by weight. At the beginning of the starting period the catalyst is fed at a velocity which is kept at a stable level and is equal to the one specific to the stable period. The velocity can have higher values and gradually fall to become equal to the mentioned feed velocity of the stable period. The suspension id delivered as finished product.
