FIELD: chemical technology, catalytic organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: product - furan. Reagent 1: furfural. Reagent 2: hydrogen. Process conditions: vapor-gaseous mixture of furfural and hydrogen is passed at 200-340 C through a layer of palladium catalyst (volume pore ratio with effective radius is 3-10 and 10-900 nm) 1:(1-3), respectively, on the carbon carrier promoted with a mixture of alkaline metal oxide and nitrate at atomic ratio palladium: alkaline metal = 1:(0.5-3). Vapor-gaseous mixture of furfural and hydrogen through catalyst layer is carried out up to decrease of furfural conversion to 79-95%. Then catalyst is blown with hydrogen at the volume rate 50-150 h-1 at 300-450 C following by alternating the stages of vapor-gaseous furfural and hydrogen mixture passing and blowing of catalyst with hydrogen. EFFECT: prolonged work of catalyst up to 1300-1600 h, diminished number of catalyst overloading.
