FIELD: petrochemistry. SUBSTANCE: catalyst has in combination (percent) cobalt ranging from 3 to 60, 0.03 - 18.00 of rhenium the balance being aluminium oxide with the rhenium content in the catalyst accounting for 1-30% cobalt content. The catalyst can have additional alkali metal oxide at the rate of 0.5-5.0 percent of the cobalt content and/or 0.1-5.0 percent by weight oxides of metals selected from the group containing zirconium, vanadium and rare-earth metals. So as to form the catalyst its carrier is impregnated with salts of the mentioned metals accompanied by drying and calcination. Hydrocarbons are formed at the temperature ranging from 190 to 280 C with the pressure being 1-40 at and volume synthesis gas velocity varying from 100 to 10000 cm3/q cat/h at the 1:1 - 2.5:1 hydrogen-carbon oxide molar ratio on the catalyst of the above-mentioned formula. The process is conducted in suspending reactor with the preferable hydrogen-carbon oxide molar ratio ranging from 1.5:1 to 2.5:1.
