FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: chrome is prepared by aluminothermic reduction by charging and melting of charge consisting of the chrome oxide, aluminium, oxidizer and flux at the first stage, and charge consisting of the chrome oxide and aluminium at concentration 1.1-1.65 of stoichiometry at the second stage. Charge melting is carried out using sodium nitrate as oxidizing agent. Charge melting at the first stage is carried out with chrome oxide content 55-75% of total mass for melt and aluminium at concentration 0.77-0.92 of stoichiometric required for reduction of chrome oxide at charge loading at the rate 180-260 kg/kg/m2·min. x min.
