FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of producing cast chromium. Method is implemented by the method of centrifugal SHS-casting using a reaction mixture. Preparation of the reaction mixture is carried out by mixing chromium (III) oxide, aluminum metal, magnesium metal and calcium difluoride (CaF2) at the following ratio of components, wt.%: chromium (III) oxide 71.5–72.5; metal aluminum 23.0–24.0; magnesium metal 2.3–3.2; calcium difluoride (CaF2) 1.2–2.3. Obtained reaction mixture is placed in refractory mold, which is placed on centrifuge rotor, and the mixture is ignited and synthesis is carried out in combustion mode at centrifugal acceleration in the overload range of (45–55) g with subsequent separation of the cast chromium ingot from the slag phase based on aluminum oxide Al2O3.

EFFECT: enabling development of an out-of-furnace technology for producing cast chromium with purity of up to 99.7%, with reduced content of main impurity components in the form of Al, O, N, C, output of the end product to 96 wt.% of the design values, reduction of energy consumption and reduction of volatile technogenic emissions at the stage of combustion of initial compositions due to absence of additional energy additives in the composition of the initial mixture.
