FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: device has a refractory unit with a rigid light guide coupled with a flexible light guide through hollow cylindrical rod within which a variable-focus lens is placed. The flexible light guide is coupled with a sensor of spectral ratio pyrometer. The refractory unit is movable. The method is characterized in that damage of the refractory unit end-face is excluded due to the fact that it is fed to the melt preliminarily heated and at speed preventing thermal shock.
