FIELD: production of monomers. SUBSTANCE: methyl acrylate is prepared by dehydrogenation of methylpropyl ether in a gas phase in the presence of an inert gas over an oxide catalyst which comprises the following components (wt % ): CuO 53 ± 3, ZnO 26 ± 2, Al2O3 5,5 ± 0,7; Fe2O3 0,06 ± 0,02; NiO 0,03 ± 0,02; WO3 0,06 ± 0,02; Na2O; 0,03 ± 0,02; CO2 5 ± 1, up to 100% graphite, at 240-280 C, the methyl propionate to inert gas volumetric ratio is (0.5-2): 1; the contact time is 1- 3 s; the selectivity is 91-33%. EFFECT: improved process. 3 tbl
