FIELD: rolled stock production. SUBSTANCE: screwdown apparatus has a nut, mounted in a housing of a rolling stand or in a roller-type straightening machine. The nut engages with a hollow screw, joined by a splined stem with a driving sleeve, provided by a worm gear, resting upon a thrust bearing. A lower end of the adjusting screw through a step bearing is joined with a body, movable relative to the housing of the stand, that body being a chock of a rolling roll or a roller of the straightening machine. A hollow reverse screw is mounted coaxially with the adjusting screw. The hollow screw engages with a nut, being monolithic with the drive sleeve. A thread of the reverse screw has a pitch, equal to a pitch of an opposite-direction thread of the hollow adjusting screw. A tie rod passes through cavities of the reverse screw, of the adjusting screw and of the step bearing. A head of the tie rod is secured to the above mentioned body. The tie rod is provided by guides in the form of splines, engaging with reciprocal members of an inner surface of the reverse screw. The tie rod is spring-loaded relative to an end surface of the reverse screw. Tightening of the spring is being performed with the aid of a nut and a washer.
